Tommy Johnston Park
2021

THE CHALLENGE //

MY SOLUTION //

Develop a visual identity design for a small-scale public environment to connect to the people and promote the space.

I analyzed the functions of Tommy Johnston Park and the typical audience that benefits from the space. I developed strategies to generate awareness, functionality, and wayfinding for more students to utilize the park from the comprehensive design.
THE PROCESS //

I began with research. I walked through the space, took inventory of the signage and assets, and saw what other successfully branded parks did well. From there, I sketched small snippets of inspiration for logo ideation.
The logo design was inspired by a combination of the hanging ring equipment in a front-facing perspective as if the viewer is about to begin the exercise. The three stacked triangles are also a simplified nod to the surrounding nature and trees at the park.
CREATING THE IDENTITY //

I clarified the strategy of making the park more accessible and bringing awareness with wayfinding. I began to develop the logotype, define the color palette, and create touchpoints to brand the environment.
FINAL PRODUCT //

To present and promote the new design of the space, I designed a promotional poster for Tommy Johnston Park. The poster includes the brand identity elements of the primary logo, logo mark, logotype, typeface, and color palette, and the park signage applications.
